Rarely does a piece of tactical apparel come along that is so well-designed, it manages to transcend the “shoot-me-first” look to become recognized as just a great everyday jacket. For years, finding the right concealed carry clothing has felt like a frustrating compromise. Many options on the market scream “tactical,” making you stick out in everyday environments when you would much rather blend in. Fortunately, Beretta approaches technical apparel differently. Their gear maintains a tasteful, low-key profile, transitioning seamlessly from running aggressive drills on the range to grabbing lunch downtown.
The new Beretta jacket – Cloak 2L WP – captures that philosophy perfectly. Launched as part of their Defense Training Gear collection, this waterproof outer shell provides serious weather protection without ever broadcasting your EDC loadout.
Built for carry
Traditional rain jackets are not always ideal for everyday carriers. Fumbling with a clumsy two-way bottom zipper wastes precious time and exposes your midsection.
The Cloak addresses that with a dedicated Quick Draw system. It uses a full-length reverse-coil zipper on the strong side, along with a small safety buckle at the hem. Once the buckle is released, the front flap can be opened in one quick motion, giving more direct access at the beltline for an IWB or OWB setup.
It’s a purpose-built feature, but it’s integrated in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the overall design of the jacket.
Everyday comfort and concealment
For people who carry daily, the appeal is simple: normal-looking clothing with practical, hidden utility. That’s where the Cloak does a lot right. It works as a streamlined waterproof carry jacket, but it still looks like a clean, modern rain shell.
The fit is slightly roomier than a standard athletic shell, which helps reduce cling and gives you enough space for concealed carry without making the jacket feel oversized.
Beretta also includes hidden drawcords inside the side pockets. These let you adjust the front hem slightly, which can help tailor the length and improve how the jacket sits for your setup.
Another standout feature is the hood. It’s highly adjustable and turns with your head, so you’re not fighting the fabric every time you look over your shoulder. That sounds like a small thing, but in real-world use, it makes a noticeable difference.
Weather protection and mobility
Oftentimes, rain gear means stiff, noisy hardshells that severely restrict your movement. Beretta avoids much of that here.
The Cloak combines its proprietary BWB EVO membrane with a quiet 4-way stretch polyamide face fabric and micro-ripstop construction. The result is a jacket that feels much more mobile than a typical hard shell. Whether you’re squatting, crawling, or moving aggressively, it’s designed to move with you instead of against you.
That kind of stretch in a waterproof carry jacket at this price point is not especially common, and it helps set the Cloak apart.
There is one tradeoff, though. Because it uses a 2-layer construction without a separate mesh liner, it may feel a little clammy against bare skin in warm weather or during higher-output activity. Sweat just doesn’t evaporate as quickly in that setup.
On the other hand, that same 2-layer design helps the jacket pack down small. It’s easy to toss into a backpack or gear bag without taking up much space.
So here’s the biggest strength of the Cloak jacket for concealed carry: it performs like high-end technical apparel, but visually it blends into an urban environment as a standard windproof rain shell.
Layering matters
Since the Cloak is primarily a waterproof outer shell, comfort will depend a lot on what you wear underneath it. To regulate temperature well, you’ll want the right base and mid-layers.
Beretta’s Defense Training Gear collection includes a few options that pair naturally with it:
Apollo Merino Hoodie: uses a double-faced fabric with merino wool on the outside for breathability and viscose on the inside for faster drying.
Ortles Long Sleeve T-Shirt: features Polygiene technology to help control odor-causing bacteria.
Champion’s Edge Polo and T-Shirt: reflects near-infrared solar rays to help keep skin cooler.
