We’ve got more coverage from this year’s SHOT show today and stay tuned this week for more.
Benelli
This year Benelli is releasing a limited run of the 25th Anniversary Super Black Eagle Flyway Editions. There are four different guns to match the four main waterfowl flight paths, and each gun has its own customized engraved receiver. The Atlantic Flyway version displays a Canada goose, the Central Flyway features a snow goose, the Mississippi Flyway has a pintail and the Pacific flyway has a mallard. There will only be a select amount of these guns available and they run $3199 MSRP.
Benelli is also releasing an over-under, the 828U with a nickle engraved receiver in a fast, lightweight design. This shotgun looks like a lot of fun and has an MSRP of $3000.
The Benelli Ethos new 12 gauge semi-auto was also on display, and there are new camo patterns available in Mossy Oak and the popular Sitka Optifade in most existing Benelli models.
SIG Sauer
SIG has updated versions of their Electro Optics line at SHOT this week including hunting scopes in the Whiskey 3 and 5 and tactical scopes in the Tango 4 and 6. The Whiskey 3 is the entry-level model with more advanced versions available in the 4, 5 and 6 versions. These rifle scopes feature several slick Hellfire illuminated reticle options.
We also had a chance to try out the Echo1 Thermal Sight new at SHOT this year, and this optic has some pretty cool features. You can cycle on the fly through 6 different thermal colors and 3 reticle colors to find the setting that works best for your environment, and it has an integrated memory you can access to download still images taken with the optic. At $2500 it’s not for everyone but represents a step in the right direction for SIG’s Thermal Electro Optics line.
Up next, we had a chance to try out the Kilo2 rangefinder that can range on the fly 4 times a second with 7x magnification. It’s so compact and light, this is definitely worth a look for those looking to add a rangefinder. The Oscar3 mini-spotter was also on display, and this tiny spotter is unlike nothing else with gyroscopic stabilization and magnification options in both 6-12×25 and 10-20×30.
We also checked out the Legion line of SIG 220, 226 and 229 pistols. These redesigned SIGs are hugely popular right now at their price point, around $1400, and they come with 3 magazines and a signature Legion case and collectors coin. What’s more, once you purchase one, you’re granted exclusive access to SIG Legion products like holsters, knives and more.
Leica
The much anticipated ER5 series from Leica is ready to ship this year, and there’s a lot to be excited about in this rifle scope line. It is an all-German parts and glass rifle scope assembled in the US, and with price points ranging from $799 to $1400, this is sure to be a new favorite for many shooters. The 2-10×50, 3-15×50 and 4-20×50 models in 4A or Flex reticles are ready to ship in March, and 3 more models and ballistic reticle options will be ready in June or July.
ThermaCELL
ThermaCELL added some great new additions to their heated insoles and pocket warmers line for 2016. First up are the Proflex and Heavy Duty heated insoles that make serious headway on the previous heated insole design. These new models feature removable batteries vs the fixed batteries of previous models, which means you can pop out the drained batteries mid hunt and keep your feet warm on those long days. The Proflex is $180 and has a 4-5 hour battery life while the Heavy Duty insoles have a 6-7 hour life at $200. Each pair of insoles are controlled by a wireless remote, and they now have low, medium and high modes. You can also buy more Heavy Duty batteries for $60. The Heavy Duty model won’t ship until August 2016, but you can add Heavy Duty batteries to the Proflex later on down the line if you don’t want to wait.
A ThermaCELL mobile app and Bluetooth support in the Proflex and Heavy Duty are also coming this year, and you’ll be able to tap into your smartphone and check your insoles’ battery life, adjust temperature settings, and even set up different temperature levels for each foot. The hand and larger pocket warmers pictured below are also compatible with the ThermaCELL app.
