Glock Discontinues Most of Its Pistol Models: What’s Next?

Glock has listed 34 models as discontinued on its website, including some of their most popular designs like the Gen4 Glock 17 and 19. While Glock hasn’t put out a big public announcement, several reliable sources say that shipments for these models will stop at the end of November.

So what’s going on?

Why the Big Change?

Glock’s official explanation focuses on “strategic portfolio reduction” to drive future innovation. But there’s more to the story.

California recently passed a law banning semi-automatic handguns with cruciform trigger bars. This design feature makes pistols easily converted to full-auto using aftermarket switches. While “Glock switches” are already federally banned, certain Glocks make conversion easier than others. Several states have filed lawsuits against Glock and other manufacturers over this.

Insiders suggest that Glock is redesigning the trigger mechanism and rear plate on their frames to prevent these modifications in future models, possibly branded as the “Glock V” line.

Other factors driving the decision include making maintenance of market efficiency, as maintaining numerous similar models became costly and complicated, and a technology shift, as most discontinued models lack modern features like MOS (Modular Optic System) cuts that today’s shooters prefer.

What This Means for You

If you own one of these discontinued models, don’t panic. Glock has confirmed they’ll continue servicing them, just like they do with older gens. Parts and support won’t disappear overnight.

However, if you’ve had your eye on a Gen4 G19 or another model on the list, the clock is ticking as the news will likely cause the discontinued models to sell like hotcakes.

For law enforcement, Glock says they remain “fully committed” to supporting agency needs. Individual Officer Purchase (IOP) programs may be affected, but the company plans to work closely with departments to ensure officers get what they need.

The cutoff date for shipping these models is reportedly November 30th. While Glock hasn’t made a formal, widespread announcement, multiple sources close to the company have confirmed this date.
