Big Rock Sports, a major distributor, which supplied thousands of retailers across the country with fishing, hunting, and camping gear, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
For many, this wasn’t exactly a surprise – it was more of an “open secret” that things were rocky – but the finality of a Chapter 7 liquidation is a heavy blow. The Breakdown
Big Rock Sports serviced something like 20,000 retailers – fishing shops, gun stores, camping outfitters – with everything from fishing tackle and camping gear to firearms and ammunition. They operated huge distribution centers in North Carolina, Minnesota, and Nevada, acting as the lifeline for countless mom and pop shops that didn’t have the buying power to go direct to manufacturers.
Their Canadian division has already been liquidated back in December, and the U.S. operations are following the same path. That means customers might notice some empty shelves at your local spots as they scramble to find new distributors to fill the gap.
